- TTAG, cops discuss ways to make Goa a safe tourist destination:
Panaji Oct 22: The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG)
organised an interactive session with the Goa police to make Goa
a safe and secured tourist destination and make the tourists feel
a safe environment since 40 per cent of the Goan economy thrives
on the tourism revenue.
The DGP, Mr Amod Kanth expressing happiness over the presence
of members of the hospitality trade in large numbers, reiterated
his commitment in maintaining the law and order promising that
his police team including himself would go out of the way to make
the tourist enjoy a comfortable holiday in a safe environment.
Mr Kanth said that he had taken over just three months back and
had found the state to be a wonderful place to work as the people
were hospitable and cooperative. The police usually functions
in times of crisis, but we have to respect the tourist and they
in turn should be made aware of the existing laws of the land,
he opined. The other police officials present on the occasion
also gave brief reports on the subject.
The TTAG president, Mr Charles Bonifacio spoke about the precautionary,
safety and preventive measures to be adopted in their premises
during the tourist season. He also outlined the challenges facing
the tourism industry and how it could be met with.
In his address the TTAG vice-president, Mr Ralph de Sousa then
elaborated on the tourism issues affecting the trade in general
and how the police could play an important role in making Goa
a safe global destination.

- Travel savvy Russians make a beeline for Goa:
Goa has become a favorite holiday destination for travel savvy
Russians and by the end of this year the number of tourists from
that country to visit the picturesque state would touch 40, 000,
a senior Indian official said in Moscow.
"The number of tourists has increased manifold, " Indian
Ambassador to Russia Kanwal Sibal said inaugurating the Velha
(Old) Goa photo exhibition in Moscow Tuesday.
On an average only nearly 1, 000 Russian tourists had visited
Goa annually since 1996, but last year the number crossed 25, 000
and by the end of this year it is expected to touch 40, 000, he
said.
Organised in the prestigious Foreign Literature Library, the
Velha Goa expo is a collection of 83 photographs by Binoy Behal
depicting the spiritual life of Goa, including its old churches.
He expressed confidence that during the three-week long photo
expo thousands of readers of the Foreign Literature Library would
not only be able to learn more about Goa but also would become
potential tourists to visit this land which compliments Russia's
severe winter with its warm summer.
